Caravans of camels will cover your land, young camels of Midian and Ephah, and all from Sheba will come, bearing gold and frankincense and proclaiming the praises of the Lord.” Isaiah 60:6

The train journey from Kano to Nguru was very interesting. Fascinating sites along the intermix of the Savannah and the Sahel dotted the route. “This is why I love to travel in the economy cabin”, said Abu. “You got to meet lots of people from diverse race. It’s really funny here, isn’t it, compared to the first-class coach where everyone minds their business.” He continued. I was rather carried away with the caravan of camels. “Look at those!” I responded. “Oh, that is one of the beautiful gifts of nature you see when you come to this part of the country.” Abu replied with a wide smile.

Nguru is an international commercial center. The railway terminal built many years ago made the city received peoples from diverse places including those from the Republics of Niger, Burkina Faso and Chad. Islam is very visible in the town with Mosques in almost every street. At the fish market, buying and selling was paused at the Friday call to prayer. “Our people do not joke with the Salat al-Jumu’ah”, said Abu. “We pray God to bring peace and prosperity to our land.
